The Cardinals selected CB Jamell Fleming out of Oklahoma with the 80th overall pick (3rd round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Fleming is 5’10″, 202 pounds and he runs a 4.55 40. Fleming is good at getting to the ball against the pass. But, he has a lot of work to do to get to even being an average tackler. Fleming played in 11 games (all starts) at Oklahoma last year and he had 60 tackles, 10 passes broken up, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. Fleming played in 49 games (23 starts) in his four years with the Sooners and he had 168 tackles, 24 passes broken up, 7 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. If the Cardinals can coach up Fleming a little bit, they might have found a solid player.

The Cardinals have picked WR Michael Floyd out of Notre Dame with the 13th overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. Floyd is 6’3″, 229 pounds and that helps him win a lot of jump balls. He is not a blazer as he runs a 4.55 40, but he won’t have to be with Larry Fitzgerald on the other side of the field. Floyd played in 13 games (12 starts) for Notre Dame last year and he caught 100 passes for 1,147 yards (11.5 avg) with 9 TD grabs. He played in 44 games (41 starts) in his four years with the Irish and he caught 271 passes for 3,686 yards (13.6 avg) with 37 TD grabs. I really like this pickup for the Cardinals, as they will be able to make defenses pay for double covering Larry Fitzgerald too much in 2012 and beyond.

The Cardinals have been more busy retaining their own players than signing free agents from other teams. But they have tried to help all three phases of the game so far this off-season. Here is a look at the guys that are sticking around and the ones coming to town:

Offensively: The biggest move the Cardinals have made offensively this off-season was the signing of OT Adam Snyder, who should be a starter from Day #1. The Cardinals also re-signed WR Early Doucet and he played pretty well for them last year as he appears to be a late bloomer. The Cardinals also re-signed OG D’Anthony Batiste and RB Alonso Smith to help out with depth on the Cardinals’ offense.

Defensively: The Cardinals have used the franchise tag on DE Calais Campbell and it was a smart move as he is a player on the rise. The Cardinals also re-signed CB Greg Toler and he will keep his starting job on one side. The Cardinals also signed CB William Gay and safety James Sanders who will have key roles in the Cardinals’ secondary in 2012. The Cardinals have also re-signed backup linebacker Reggie Walker.

Special Teams: The Cardinals have re-signed kicker Jay Feely, punter Dave Zastudil and long snapper Mike Leach to keep the special teams intact in 2012.

GRADE FOR THE OFF-SEASON SO FAR: B
