Is Matt Leinart still the QB of the future for the Arizona Cardinals?

26-year old Matt Leinart has seemed to regress over the years to the point where the Cardinals have to ask themselves if he is the QB of the future.  Leinart has played in 4 games for the Cardinals so far this season completing 7 of 11 passes (63.6%) for 45 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT (34.3 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 4 times for -2 yards (-0.5 ypc) but most of those were kneel  downs.  Leinart has now played in 25 games in four years for the Cardinals and he has completed 296 of 529 passes (56%) for 3,503 yards with 14 TD passes and 18 INTs (70.9 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 41 times for 94 yards (2.3 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Leinart just doesn’t look like a starting QB in the NFL so maybe the Cardinals will look into drafting another QB in next April’s NFL Draft to challenge him.

The Arizona Cardinals need to get the offense a little better balanced with a running game

The Cardinals need to get a running game going soon or teams are just going to blitz Kurt Warner like a mad man.  Neither Tim Hightower or Beanie Wells has stepped up into a featured role in the offense.  Hightower leads the Cardinals with 158 yards rushing this season but he needed 51 carries (3.1 ypc) to get there.  He also has three TD runs.  As bad as his numbers are though, Hightower has been better than Wells this season.  Beanie Wells has carried the ball 35 times for 124 yards (3.5 ypc) this year.  The Cardinals as a team are only rushing for 57.6 yards per game and 2.9 yards per carry.  If that doesn’t improve soon I just can’t see the Cardinals making the playoffs again this season.

The bye week comes at the right time for the Arizona Cardinals

QB Kurt Warner can definately use the week off to get better as he has suffered a couple of stingers already this season.  But his WR corps has been banged up since the year began and Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston will benefit big time from a week of rest.  Boldin has caught 16 passes for 171 yards (10.7 avg) with 1 TD grab despite playing at way less than 100%.  Breaston has caught 12 passes for 177 yards (14.8 avg) and he has also returned 3 punts for 13 yards (4.3 avg) this season.  For the Cardinals to give Kurt Warner the best chance to help the team win he needs both Boldin and Breaston healthy as it gives him a lot of good options in the passing game.  Teams will also pay for doubling Larry Fitzgerald if everyone is healthy.
