TE Leonard Pope Cut

Blogged under Big Cards News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Other Stuff by smash on Saturday 5 September 2009 at 2:19 pm

Former Georgia standout Leonard Pope was among those cut for the Cardinals to reach the maximum 53 man roster. Pope was probably the biggest name cut and it’s disappointing. The 2006 third round pick was a great college player for the Bulldogs, with his great combination of size and athleticism. Unfortunately, he never did catch on to the NFL game, like many college standouts. It will be surprising if he doesn’t find a spot on some roster. Players with his athleticism, and at his age, will always be given a chance.

Some of the other notable cuts include safety Aaron Francisco, one of last season’s special teams captains; linebacker Victor Hobson, who is a former starter for the New York Jets; and center Melvin Fowler, who has been a starter for the Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, and Buffalo Bills.

Denver Broncos 19, Arizona Cardinals 0

The Cardinals didn’t come to play last night in Denver.  Kurt Warner didn’t look good completing 2 of 7 passes for 48 yards with 1 interception.  Matt Leinart also was sloppy completing just 1 of 4 passes for 4 yards with 1 interception.  Tyler Palko finished the game and he was awful too completing 13 of 30 passes for 141 yards with 1 interception.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 27 yards to lead the Cards in rushing.  Larry Fitzgerald only caught 1 pass but he led the Cards in receiving yards with 36.  The Cardinals completed passes to 11 different receivers none of which caught more than two passes or had more than 36 yards.  The Cardinals finished up with 244 total yards in this game (68 rushing, 176 passing).

CBs Greg Toler (7 tackles) and Michael Adams (6 tackles, interception) led the way for the Cards on D.  The Broncos finished up with 314 total yards on offense (115 rushing, 199 passing).  The Cardinals finished up the pre-season with a 0-4 record.

The Arizona Cardinals lose WR Early Doucet

Blogged under Big Cards News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 1 September 2009 at 4:05 pm

The Cardinals have lost 23-year old WR Early Doucet indefinately with fractured ribs.  Doucet played in 7 games as a rookie last season for the Cardinals and he caught 14 passes for 90 yards (6.4 avg).  He was playing o.k. in the pre-season before he got hurt as he caught 6 passes for 97 yards (16.2 avg) with a TD.  This injury hurts Doucet way more than it harms the Cardinals who are very, very deep at WR.
