Arizona Cardinals vs. Dallas Cowboys

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General by admin on Sunday 12 October 2008 at 10:37 am

This should be a outstanding football game as Coach Ken Whisenhunt of the Cardinals is 8-2 at home in his young NFL career.  The Cardinals will likely come out firing the football against the Cowboys but they must give Kurt Warner the time he needs to survey the field and avoid mistakes.  The Cardinals have allowed 12 sacks this season and the Cowboys have 14 already this season!  Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston should have good games against a Cowboys’ defense that is allowing 210.2 yards passing per game.  The Cardinals would like to run the football with Edgerrin James and rookie Tim Hightower if they get a lead to protect.

The Cowboys will likely engage in a shootout with the Cardinals as Terrell Owens and Jason Witten could be set up for big games against a Cardinals’ defense allowing 204.2 yards passing per game (103.9 QB Rating).  The Cardinals have 15 sacks this season and they will be blitzing Tony Romo all game long so it will be up to the Cowboys’ O-Line which has allowed only 4 sacks this season to protect him and give him time to survey the field.  Still, the Cowboys will also pound the ball on the ground at the Cardinals with Marion Barber (395 yards rushing, 4.2 ypc) and Felix Jones (244 yards rushing, 9.0 ypc).

PREDICTION:  DALLAS COWBOYS 37, ARIZONA CARDINALS 34

Arizona Cardinals 41, Buffalo Bills 17

The Cardinals beat the Bills up on both the scoreboard and the field knocking out QB Trent Edwards in the first quarter.  The Cardinals controlled the clock for 36:16 in this game and they out-gained the Bills 373-287 in this game.  Kurt Warner spread the ball around using 9 different receivers as he completed 33 of 42 passes for 250 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 interceptions.  Steve Breaston (7 rec, 77 yards) and Larry Fitzgerald (7 rec, 52 yards, 2 TDs) both led the way in the passing game last week for the Cardinals.  Edgerrin James led the Cardinals in rushing yards with 57 yards on 21 carries (2.7 ypc) and he scored a TD.  Rookie Tim Hightower also had a good game rushing for 37 yards on 7 carries (5.3 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  The Cardinals improved to 3-2 on the season as they are leading the NFC West Division right now.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Buffalo Bills

This should be a good football game as the surprising 4-0 Bills head to Arizona to face a Cardinals team that has won 7 of their last 9 home games.  Despite seeing Brett Favre throw six TD passes against the Cardinals last week look for the Bills to remain balanced on offense.  Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson will likely try to set the tone early with the running game.  If they can establish the running game then look for Trent Edwards to attack the Cards’ defense down the field as long as he has time to throw the ball as he has been sacked 11 times already this season and the Cardinals have 10 sacks.  Lee Evans is averaging 23.7 yards per catch this season so the Cards will likely double him and make Edwards beat them through the air with someone else.

The Cardinals also must remain somewhat balanced or the Bills will turn the dogs loose on the pass rush as Kurt Warner has already been sacked 12 times this season and the Bills have 10 sacks.  When Warner has pressure in his face he sometimes panics as was proven last week when he turned the ball over often.  The Cardinals should get Edgerrin James and rookie RB Tim Hightower the ball often on the ground early in the game to loosen up the Bills’ defense.  Warner has thrown for 1,222 yards this season already so look for him to get the football to Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston often this week.

The Arizona Cardinals lose Anquan Boldin

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General by admin on Saturday 4 October 2008 at 11:29 pm

The Arizona Cardinals have lost WR Anquan Boldin indefinately due to surgery on a sinus fracture.  Boldin was having a awesome season for the Cardinals this year with 27 catches for 368 yards (13.6 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  Boldin will be replaced by the capable Steve Breaston.  Breaston has caught 13 passes for 194 yards (14.9 avg) so far this season.  The Cardinals will miss Boldin but Breason should do a good job for them.

New York Jets 56, Arizona Cardinals 35

The Cardinals turned the football over 7 times in this game and it’s almost impossible to win that way.  The Cardinals fell behind 34-0 at the half before trying to make a game of it in the 2nd half.  Kurt Warner had some mis-leading numbers in this game as he completed 40 of 57 passes for 472 yards passing with 2 TD passes and 3 interceptions.  Warner also lost three fumbles in this game!  Edgerrin James rushed for 29 yards on 9 carries (3.2 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 37 yards (7.4 avg).  Anquan Boldin had a great game (10 rec, 119 yards, TD0 before he left the game with a scary injury on a head to head hit.  Steve Breaston also stepped up in this game with 9 receptions for 122 yards (13.6 avg).  Larry Fitzgerald pitched in with 8 grabs for 122 yards (15.3 avg).  Jerheme Urban had one of his better games also with 5 catches for 50 yards and a TD.  The Cardinals finished up with 42 yards rushing on 15 carries (2.8 ypc) and they also completed 40 of 57 passes for 426 yards.

The defense did not play well against the Jets as Brett Favre threw six TD passes against the Cardinals last Sunday.  DB Aaron Francisco led the way for the Cards on defense with 9 tackles.  Linebacker Chike Okeafor was also busy in this game with 6 tackles, a sack and a interception.  The Jets finished up with 89 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 34 passes for 284 yards.  The Cardinals are now 2-2 on the season with this loss.
