The Arizona Cardinals sign FB Terrelle Smith

The Cardinals have signed fullback Terrelle Smith to a two year contract.  He is mostly used as a blocker and he’s pretty good at it.  His signing should really benefit Edgerrin James in the power running game that the Cards will likely try to install.  Smith played in 16 games (8 starts) for the Cleveland Browns last season and he carried the ball 8 times for 14 yards (1.8 ypc).  He also caught 8 passes for 21 yards (2.6 avg).  This was a good move for the Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals re-sign DE Chris Cooper

The Cardinals have re-signed Chris Cooper to a two year contract.  In his first season with the Cards, Cooper played in 13 games and he made 21 tackles, had 2 sacks, defensed 3 passes and had a fumble recovery.  This was a good move as Cooper provides good depth along the D-Line.

The Arizona Cardinals sign WR Sean Morey to a 3-year contract

The new head coach of the Cardinals decided to bring over the best special teams player from the Pittsburgh Steelers whom he coached for last season.  Morey played in all 16 games last season and he only caught 2 passes for 29 yards, but that wasn’t his main job.  Morey made 16 special teams tackles and he returned 8 kickoffs for 202 yards (25.3 avg).  Look for Morey to get a chance to return kicks for the Cardinals this season and he’s a player that will make all of the Cardinals special teams units better in 2007 than they were in 2006.

The Cardinals re-sign linebacker Monty Beisel

The Cards have re-signed Monty Beisel to a two year contract.  He played in 8 games for the Cards last season and he made 16 tackles and had an interception.  Look for him to be a solid backup for the Cardinals again this season.

The Cardinals sign CB Roderick Hood

The Cardinals have signed CB Roderick Hood and they’re going to give him exactly what he’s been looking for and that is a starting job.  Hood played in 10 games last season for the Philadelphia Eagles and he made 21 tackles, had a sack, defensed 3 passes and recovered a fumble.  Hood will really help improve the Cardinals defense and that’s why this was a good signing for them.  Hood has played in 56 games in his career and he made 121 tackles, has a sack, 5 interceptions, defensed 23 passes, forced a fumble and he’s recovered 5 fumbles.

The Cardinals sign FS Terrence Holt

The Cardinals filled a big hole earlier today when they signed free safety Terrence Holt to a five year contract.  Holt played in 16 games for the Detroit Lions and he made 76 tackles, had 1/2 a sack, 3 interceptions, defensed a pass, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.  This was an excellent signing for the Cardinals who will pair Holt with Adrian Wilson to give the Cardinals one of the best safety tandems in the NFL.

The Cardinals sign center Al Johnson

Blogged under Big Cards News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by dawgpounded on Tuesday 6 March 2007 at 1:00 pm

The Cardinals have signed center Al Johnson.  He played in all 16 games last season for the Dallas Cowboys, but he didn’t start any of them.  In 4 seasons with the Cowboys, Johnson played in 48 games and started 31 of them.  The 6’5″, 311 pound Johnson will be the starter at center next season for this team and this is the beginning of rebuilding the offensive line in Arizona.

The Cardinals re-sign two of their own free agents

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Sunday 4 March 2007 at 10:36 pm

The Cardinals have re-signed safety Hanik Milligan and RB Marcel Shipp.  Shipp will back up Edgerrin James again this season.  He played in 15 games last season and he carried the ball 17 times for 41 yards (2.4 ypc) with 4 TD runs.  He also caught 6 passes for 60 yards (10.0 avg).  Look for him to have better numbers this season as the Cardinals will probably run the ball more than they did last season.  Milligan is a great special teams player and that’s why the Cardinals have brought him back.  He played in all 16 games last season and he made 15 tackles and defensed a pass.

The Cardinals to release QB John Navarre

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Thursday 1 March 2007 at 11:40 pm

QB John Navarre will be released.  He’s was buried on the depth chart and hasn’t shown much improvement as a player.  He played in 2 games (1 start) and he completed 32 of 64 passes (50%) for 342 yards with 2 TD passes and 5 interceptions (43.9 QB Rating).  This will be no loss for the Cardinals.
