Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Saturday 9 December 2006 at 2:19 am

The Seahawks have won two in a row since the returns of Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander.  The Cardinals have won 2 of their last 3 games.

Look for the Seahawks to continue riding on the back of Shaun Alexander.  The Cards have a hard time stopping the run as they allow 121.1 yards rushing and 4.2 yards per carry so far this season.  Look for Hasselbeck to also attack the Cardinals downfield with Darrell Jackson and Deion Branch.  Hasselbeck must be careful because Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson is an impact player that makes game-altering plays.

The Cardinals should run Edgerrin James (810 yards rushing) alot in this football game.  The Seahawks are vulnerable to a running game as they allow 117.5 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.  Anquan Boldin (66 rec, 920 yards) and Larry Fitzgerald should cause big problems for the Seahawks if the O-Line gives Matt Leinart time to throw the ball.  The Seahawks have 39 sacks already this season.

Look for the Seahawks to pull this game out due to another huge game by Shaun Alexander.

1st round pick performing O.K. for the Cardinals

Matt Leinart has justified the Cardinals using their first round pick on him.  Leinart only needs a better line in front of him to really excel, because it would give him more time to throw and help them get Edgerrin James going.  If the Cards had more of a threat to run the football, Leinart would definately make defenses pay with the awesome corps of receivers that the Cardinals employ.

Leinart has completed 164 of 295 passes (55.6%) for 1,939 yards with 8 TDs and 9 INTs.  Leinart also has run the ball 17 times for 29 yards (1.7 ypc) and 2 TDs.

Cardinals thrash Rams 34-20

The Arizona Cardinals bullied the Rams all day long.  The Cards ran the ball effectively and were very opportunistic on defense.

Matt Leinart had an efficient game, completing 15 of 24 passes for 186 yards and a TD.  Edgerrin James had a good game with 26 carries for 115 yards (4.4 ypc).  Marcel Shipp had a decent game off the bench with 7 carries for 21 yards (3.0 ypc) and 3 TDs.  Larry Fitzgerald caught 5 passes for 46 yards and a TD.

Adrian Wilson led the way on defense with 8 tackles and an INT.  David Macklin pitched in with 7 tackles and an INT.  Chike Okeafor had 2.5 sacks.  The Rams ran the ball well, carrying it 23 times for 107 yards (4.7 ypc).  The Rams completed 27 of 45 for 287 net yards passing.

This was a nice win for the Cardinals.

Arizona Cardinals vs. St. Louis Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 1 December 2006 at 11:48 am

The Cardinals have split their last two games, but they’ve been playing alot better than earlier in the season.  The Rams snapped a 5-game losing streak by beating the 49ers last weekend.

Look for this to be the week that Edgerrin James goes off.  James has had a rough year so far, but the Rams are allowing 154.8 yards rushing per game and 5.2 yards per carry.  After James has established the running game, look for Matt Leinart (who’s playing well lately) to go after the corners of the Rams with Anquan Boldin (64 rec, 888 yards) and Larry Fitzgerald (44 rec, 618 yards).

The Rams will also run the ball a bit with big Steven Jackson (932 yards rushing) against the soft interior of the Cards defense which is allowing 122.4 yards rushing and 4.2 yards per carry this season.  Don’t think for a second that the Rams aren’t going to attack the secondary of the Cards too.  Marc Bulger (2,858 yards passing) should have little trouble finding Torry Holt (63 rec, 795 yards), Isaac Bruce (49 rec, 689 yards) and Steven Jackson (63 rec, 553 yards).

The first time these teams played, the Rams won the game 16-14.  Expect alot more scoring on Sunday, because neither of these defenses are any good.  I would think the Rams have the edge playing at home, but an upset is not out of the question here.
