Cardinals unstoppable on offense, but defense looks bad in 34-27 win

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 September 2006 at 8:59 pm

The offense looked super on Sunday.  Kurt Warner played a great football game on Sunday, completing 23 of 37 passes (62.2%) for 301 yards and 3 TDs.  Edgerrin James carried the ball 26 times for 73 yards (2.8 avg) and a TD, he also caught 3 passes for 13 yards.  WR Larry Fitzgerald caught 9 passes for 133 yards (14.8 avg).  Anquan Boldin caught 4 passes for 62 yards (15.5 avg) and a TD.  TE Adam Bergen and WR Troy Walters also caught TDs.

The 49ers ran for 107 yards and 5.9 yards per carry.  The Cards allowed the Niners to complete 57.5% of their passes for 286 net yards thru the air.

The Cardinals better tighten up their defense, or it could be a tougher year than they anticipate.

Cardinals vs. 49ers

The 49ers are gonna try something new and smart on offense.  Look for the 49ers to run the ball alot in the opener against the Cards.  Frank Gore, Michael Robinson and Maurice Hicks are going to run alot to protect young Alex Smith and the 49ers rebuilding defense.  When Smith does throw it will more than likely be safe passes to tight-ends Vernon Davis and Eric Johnson.  I look for the 49ers to have some kind of trick play with either Arnaz Battle or Michael Robinson throwing a deep pass to Antonio Bryant at some point in the game.

The Cards are gonna be sky-high for the opening of their new stadium.  The high-powered offensive attack will feature Edgerrin James pounding the over-matched 49er defense, and Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald catching long passes against the 49ers weak secondary.

The only hope for the 49ers to keep this game close is to run the ball effectively and keep the clock running, otherwise this game will be a blowout!

Dennis Green

Dennis Green has a career record of 108-83 (56.5% wins) and is 4-8 in the post-season.  Green has won 4 division titles.  Green only has a record of 11-21 (34.4% wins) for the Cardinals.

Cards career QB numbers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 4 September 2006 at 8:51 am

Kurt Warner has been a good QB in his career as evidenced by his 94.1 career rating.  As a starter, Warner has compiled a 42-27 record (60.9% wins) and has a 5-2 record in the playoffs if the Cards can get there.

John Navarre has only started one game and he lost it.  Navarre only has a career QB rating of 43.9 and would only get to play if both Kurt Warner and rookie Matt Leinart got injured.

Cards look good throwing the ball in 29-23 loss

The only thing the Cards did well was throwing the ball on offense. The defense got pushed around as the Broncos rolled up 408 total yards. Kurt Warner completed 10 of 12 passes for 132 yards. Matt Leinart completed 10 of 15 passes for 125 yards and a TD. John Navarre finished up and completed 10 of 19 passes for 61 yards.
Marcel Shipp carried te ball 11 times for 38 yards (3.5 ypc). JJ Arrington carried the ball 7 times for 12 yards (1.7 ypc).
Anquan Bolden caught 5 passes for 78 yards.

The Broncos ran the ball 29 times for 187 yards (6.4 ypc). The Cards allowed the Broncos to complete 60% of their passes for 221 net yards passing.
